Alexander Moutafov

Studied painting at the Art Academy of Torino and the Art Academy of Munich. A professor in practical and constructive perspective at the Art Academy in Sofia. His creative talent formes in the 20s and 30s, when he stands out as one of our first marine artists and reveals the beauty of the Black sea. He works with oils and watercolor. Pastels are his medium of choice for more intimate motives. He creates figural compositions depicting the lives of the fishermen. Staying true to the natural reality of things is a defining characteristic of his art. About 60 of his paintings are on a permanent exposition in Sozopol at the Alexander Mutafov Museum, and there are more at the National Art Gallery, the Art Gallery of Plovdiv as well as other collections in Bulgaria and abroad.
