About Us
The Philippopolis Art Center is more than a museum and a gallery – it is a vibrant cultural center, located in one of the most beautiful Renaissance houses in Old Plovdiv. Established in 2003, the center unites the history of the place with the richness of Bulgarian art and becomes a stage for special events inspired by the spirit of aristocracy and elegance.

The History of the Philippopolis Art Center
A house, like a white bird perched on the fortress wall of ancient Philippopolis, with walls painted with bluish-pigeon lace descending from the sky - one of the most valuable Renaissance monuments in the Old Plovdiv reserve.
Hadji Aleko Tsvetkov, a wealthy merchant from Pazarzhdik, built one of the first houses in Old Plovdiv, around 1865. The property was inherited by his wife Efrosina, granddaughter of Hadji Kiryak Efossiyan, who was the first master of the abadji guild in Plovdiv.
After the nationalization in the 1950s, no one from the first owner's family lived in it. The house first began to be used as a cultural center when, in 1983, it was converted into the headquarters of the famous Plovdiv community center "Vazrazhdane".
In 2003, renovated and restored to its full glory by the current owners, the house of Hadji Aleko Tsvetkov reopened its doors to culture lovers.
The first floor of the house houses a gallery, and the second floor is the museum, where the past and art merge into one. The elliptical ceiling with an elegant sun rose, the preserved furniture and the collection of works by significant Bulgarian artists predispose to a deep insight into the history of Bulgarian painting and are a perfect setting for high-profile events: book presentations, cultural conferences, chamber concerts, VIP evenings and corporate parties.
In the oak cellar, converted into a restaurant, stone and wood tell a quiet, noble story. There, in the company of exquisite cuisine and wines, the coziness of the winter hall comes to life. The summer garden, set on the 2nd century fortress wall, offers views of the city that turn every dinner or cocktail into an exceptional experience.
The House of Hadji Aleko Tsvetkov is more than an architectural landmark – it is a scene for inspiration, elegance and unforgettable moments. Art Center Philippopolis is for those who believe that every significant event deserves not just a space, but a sophisticated backdrop – a backdrop in which the grandeur of history and the elegance of the present meet to create eternity.
